Details of core structure
In a mud vibracore the upper few inches of silt can be watery and without any visible structure.  Stirred up particles resettle soon after the vibration stops.
Increasingly firm silt below often exhibits layers with  sharp boundaries and even gas bubble voids in the core interior.  Vibration causes smearing only along the tube wall.
